SUMMARY<\/span><\/p>\n

Poverty, malnutrition, hunger, environmental degradation are still common throughout the Developing World, despite great advances in crop production over the last 70 years. The International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) reported recently on a study of global agriculture. The report suggests that the aims and objectives of agriculture should be greater than just the production of food and should include improved health and nutrition; enhanced livelihoods for rural populations; and social, economic and environmental sustainability. This new paradigm for agriculture is being called \u2018Multi-functional Agriculture\u2019. The good news is that there are projects already moving in this direction and I will illustrate this by presenting information about a \u2018Food for Progress\u2019 project in Cameroon.<\/span><\/p>\n
